Texas woman, 77, yanked from SUV by officer

KEENE, TX -- Police say a North Texas officer followed policy by yanking a 77-year-old woman from her SUV when she refused to provide identification and said she first needed a bathroom.

A review by Keene police found no wrongdoing by Sgt. Gene Geheb (guh-HEEB'). The Aug. 19 incident captured on police videotape was made public Wednesday.

An attorney for Lynn Bedford says the officer overreacted and she deserves an apology.

Geheb stopped Bedford for driving 66 mph in a 50-mph zone. Geheb several times asked for Bedford's license. She refused, said she had a bladder infection and needed a restroom.

Geheb eventually pulled the woman from her vehicle. Bedford was cited for speeding and failure to provide ID.

Police Chief Rocky Alberti says Geheb followed policy when violators don't provide identification.
